A Little Road Trip

an excerpt

"I wasn't thinking of one of your other guys. Thought maybe I'd see if Tingley could spare Gutierrez."

I tried to say it casually, like it was no big deal to ask the owner of one of the town's garages to let me borrow his best mechanic for a couple days. I didn't think I was fooling Bob much, but all he said was, "Can he drive my truck?"

"Has a class two. He's helped me wrangle the truck into Tingley's lot once or twice."

He nodded. "Probably Tingley ain't going to need him for a day or two. He's got his kid and one of the kid's college buddies banging around on cars for a month or so. I'll give him a call. More likely he'll say yes to me than you."

"Good point."

"Head on home and pack. Harrington's bound and determined that car'll be here for Wednesday, so you're leaving this morning."

"Yep." The last thing I wanted was to drive ten hours with a hangover. Then again, I'd be with Vince, and that would make everything better. Assuming Bob could talk Tingley into letting Vince go with me, but I didn't think that'd be much of a problem.

I went back to the trailer and packed a change of clothes and a toothbrush. After thinking it over, I added a few condoms and a thing of lube. I was on my way back out the door when my cell played Vince's ringtone.

"Hear we're off on a road trip," he said when I answered.

"As long as you're packed and ready, we are," I said.

"Tingley's a bit on the pissed side." He chuckled. "Guess Riley gave him an earful. How'd you get my name on the list?"

"Told Bob I needed a spare driver and just happened to mention you have a class two license." I grinned. He sounded happy as hell about the trip, just like I'd hoped. "Since he needs all his other drivers, he went along with it. So pack your bags, babe. We're heading for Philly."

"My bags are already packed. See you at Riley's in ten."

The line went dead. I stuck the phone back in my pocket and headed out the door whistling. An overnight trip with my guy. This was going to be perfect.
