Stanley and Tom have moved in together and are now officially a couple as well as partners in their chosen career. Everything seems to be working out better than expected, except for the fact that Tom still has difficulty saying the L word to Stanley. Shortly after they set up shop as Private Investigators, Homeland Security came calling with some unwelcome news - Stanley's brother Andrew was a wanted and extremely dangerous terrorist. Stanley had no idea he even had a brother. It seemed that his parents had been involved in drug running when Andrew was a baby, which led to them giving him away to one of their clients who had mental health issues. This contributed to Andrew becoming unhinged when he found out that the people he thought were his parents were strangers who basically 'bought' him from the Gorskys, his real parents. His complex history, together with deeply personal issues of abandonment, affect Andrew later in life and colour his worldview.

If there is one thing that struck me about Deadly Dreams it's that this book is scary, and Victor J. Banis ratchets up the intensity when least expected. The story is heartbreaking in more ways than one, and you will be shocked and devastated when tragedy strikes but it's not all bad, as Stanley has to make the most personal and painful choice that no one would ever want to make.
