...

At first Freeman comes out like one of those characters from an old noir movie, a man tired of life with nothing or noone of important in his life, who tries to drown his sorrow in a glass of spirit. And so at first Freeman comes out also older and disenchanted; when he meets Kit, it's like an old lion with a young kitty, Freeman is all low growls that never turn in real danger, and Kit is like a burst of energy, like a bouncing ball that Freeman has no more the energy to follow.

...

There is quite an originality in the way the author deals with the development of Freeman; usually the normal development of a mourning hero is to find the "light" in the arms of his beloved. Here instead, Freeman doesn't radically change, he more or less, remains the same mysterious man, since the mourning him was not a consequence of a some bad experience in his past: from what we know, he was always like that and he always faced the life with a silent and deadly approach, he takes home the job and moves to another one, always in silence, always without giving too much explanations or asking too much questions. Maybe the difference this time it will be that he will take away with him a bit of sun to light his cloudy day.

...

It's very difficult to explain any part of the plot of Freeman without giving away spoilers. The reader is drip-fed information throughout the book and it's not until a climactic scene towards the end that all is finally revealed. I have to admit I was completely fooled by the mystery and I hadn't guessed at all what was going on so this was just a great scene for me where I sat, openmouthed as all was revealed. Actually, this scene links with the first point about the book being part of a gangster film as it was very stagy. All the characters had their positions and as each new aspect of the mystery was uncovered we were shown the reactions of the people in the room, like a camera focusing on them to gauge their reactions. Marvellous.

...

Along with everything I have said above, there is Clare London's exquisite writing. Her vivid descriptions of the seedy underbelly of the city, the rank, fetid places where nice people just don't go and the creation of this calm, cold, yet utterly sympathetic hero makes this one of the most unusual, interesting books I've read in a while. I highly recommend that you read this book and I salute the author for being brave enough to write something so refreshingly distinct.

Wow! What a freaking ride! I enjoyed this book so much; words cannot express what this book was to me. I really liked this story because I was taken on a roller coaster ride that I didn’t want to get off! So many twists and turns, ins and outs, love and romance. Just awesome! When I thought I could get a hold on the story, Ms. London switched gears on me and made me want to throw my hands up and say wheeeeeeeee!.

...

Freeman reminds me of Michael Corleone. Every time he tried to get, out they pulled him back in. After you read Freeman, you’ll want to ride along with Ms. London and Freeman again and again!

Freeman is a very complicated and intense read. Clare London brings emotional angst and crime to a new level. I loved Freeman he is very complex, quiet with a lot going on behind his eyes. He is patient but a protector that knows how to get the job done.

...

Freeman is not a light read, read this book when you have some time to really digest the characters and plot, when you peel back the layers, Freeman is a book to remember. I hope there is more to this novel in the future, and is expanded as a sequel, as I can see many good things in the future for the characters that Ms London creates.
